"South Beach from the non-tourist point of view"
Why do we travel? Of course, sometimes we just
need to get away. But it is also more than that. In addition to escaping for a while, we also want a
taste of another world to expand our own cultural understanding. The secret to making
any trip a special one is to truly capture the essence of the local culture. Experience South Beach as
an insider rather than a tourist. Take the two bedroom condo for the weekend. You'll love
the view high above all the art deco architecture, shops, streets and beaches. I love South Beach. I
want you love it too. Do South Beach like a local and you will.
If you're in need of a warm vacation, like us New Yorkers know, South Beach is the perfect escape from the cold
and chaos of the city. Don't bother with the hassles of the Carribean. Everything you could want out of a Carribean vacation
is here, and you're protected by the laws of the USA. Plus it's quick and inexpensive to get here. I can usually get from
my apartment in NY to the condo here, door to door in less than 4 hours and spending $75 on travel costs. (Ask me and I'll
tell you how)
So when you go to South Beach, don't do it like a tourist. This is how I do it...
From where ever you are, fly to Ft. Lauderdale Airport (FLL) and rent a decent car from Hertz (for some reason, South
Beach is similar to LA, where it's embarrasing to drive a practical car, and stay away from MIA if you can, it's a mess).
Renting a car at the Ft Lauderdale airport is as painless as they can make it, the Rental Car Center is a 45 second indoor
walk from the baggage claim area. And, you hardly have to walk at all, one of those airport conveyor belts takes you there.
Then drive the 35 minutes to South Beach. Valet the car and pick up the keys at the front desk. Our
condo at the ICON overlooks all of South Beach. There is a ridiculously huge terrace with a
270 degree view of everything- ocean, bay and the city. The ICON South Beach is the Phillippe Stark
designed masterpiece. Mr. Stark has been an legend since Ian Schrager selected him to revamp the Delano.
And he stepped it up when he designed the ICON South Beach.
Don't bother with a hotel. Stay with us, ask any of our friends, it's way better than a hotel
FYI, This is not a condo rental, this site is to provide information for our friends and family who often stay at our condo
in South Beach.
